 Position Summary:

The Auto Garage Mechanic Foreman’s primary responsibility is the diagnosis, maintenance and repair for all assigned vehicles; including the management of purchased inventory and the integrity of all tools, materials, cleanliness and upkeep of the garage; further to track and account for the inventory of all materials and tools in support of the garage. The Auto Garage Mechanic Foreman is responsible for the supervision of the fleet mechanics and oversight of their work for completeness and adherence to industry specifications and safety procedures.

The hours for this position are Mon-Fri 5:30 am – 2:00 pm. Additional hours in the evening or on weekends will be required as determined necessary by management.

 Responsibilities:

  • Organize and keep the garage areas clean and orderly at all times.
  • Maintain a pre-established amount of inventory and tools.
  • Purchase new tools as directed by the Automotive Garage Manager
  • Keep all purchasing documentation on file.
  • Identify and track all company owned tools through a company approved tool tracking software. At a minimum this software must readily be able to issue a report on tools for insurance purposes as well the whereabouts of all tools at all times.
  • Maintain and repair all tools on an as needed basis. 
  • Maintain proper inventory procedures.
  • Accept, and update of all orders for materials in support of the garage operation.
  • Handling, distribution, and reordering of garage stock

 Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • CDL License preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline powered construction equipment, heavy and light trucks, and automobiles
  • Knowledge of heavy and light equipment in reference to component inspections, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs

Skills and Abilities:

  • The practical, working knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion engines, drive train components and all mechanical, electrical and related aspects of a motorized vehicle. 
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical defects in a variety of vehicles and construction equipment; and make repairs to same.   
  • Required: Basic understanding of spreadsheets and related computer software systems used in fleet maintenance for use in diagnosis of mechanical systems and for reporting of work performed.
  • Preferred: Proficient in use of spreadsheets and above-mentioned software systems.  
  • Use of spreadsheets and related computer software for fleet maintenance and reporting

 Physical

  • Body Positions: Standing, lying down, sitting, walking
  • Body Movements: Carrying/moving heavy tools and other warehouse/automotive type items, walking up step ladders and hydraulic lifts, use of hands, eyes, arms and voice
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Mental

  • Language ability includes reading, writing, spelling, and the ability to orally communicate clearly on job related topics in English.
