Dentist Job Description                                                                   

Overview

Dentists at Danville Dental Associates and Collinsville Dental Associates promote oral health for our patients through regular check-ups and examinations and by providing dental services to diagnose and treat problems concerning patients’ teeth and gums.  They may also provide cosmetic dental services that enhance lives with quality smiles.  

General dentist Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide general dental care by providing regular check-ups, hygiene services, x-rays, and evaluations
  • Review x-ray images captured in the office to determine the health of the teeth and potential areas of concern
  • Provide services such as filling cavities, repair damaged teeth, perform root canals, provide crowns, and extract problematic teeth
  • Protect and enhance teeth by using sealants or whitening treatments
  • Administer or prescribe medications to decrease pain and improve patient health
  • Provide specialty services within the scope of specialized training and associated certifications such as prosthodontic services, periodontic services, and orthodontic services
  • Refer patients to qualified dental specialists as needed for recommended procedures outside of their own scope or specialty
  • Instruct patients about best practices in oral health, and recommend the best brushes and toothpaste for their needs
  • Create models of crowns and dentures by taking measurements and making models
  • Perform hygiene checks by examining patients after Hygienists have performed services, making recommendations as needed for further dental services, and answering patient questions.
  • Provide all such responsibilities and services in accordance with industry and regulatory standards, meeting or exceeding required standards of care

Other Responsibilities

  • Consult with other professionals within the practice as requested, to contribute or request helpful experience and expertise
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care and services
  • Direct assistants through clear and consistent communication of needs and expectations in order to ensure highest level of patient care and customer service 
  • Supervise hygiene and assistant staff in the performance of clinical duties
  • Review and guide clinical staff to promote continuous growth and development of skills

Qualifications 

  • Doctoral degree in dental medicine
  • Maintain active license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Further training and required certifications for any specialty services to be provided
  • Continuing education courses for new procedures and standards
  • Knowledge and experience working in accordance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other laws pertaining to the practice  
  • Maintain active DEA license

  • Ability to handle multiple demands effectively and make informed decisions accurately and quickly
  • Experience working in a high-volume dental office and delivering exceptional care
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and sanitation requirements for tools and procedures
