Position Summary
We are a private clinic that provides part-time academics to children with autism. This Teacher's Aid position requires experience of working with children with special needs. You will work alongside the Academic lead in a small classroom setting (1-3 students at a time.) The lesson plans will be provided to you by our Academic Lead who supervises the classroom. Because we service children with autism, the lessons need to be adjusted sometimes, using creativity and flexibility. This position is from 8:30-11:30, Mon-Fri. Candidates must be able to work those hours.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge and Skills)
- MUST have previous experience working with children with special needs.
- Preferably experience with autism
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be willing to complete a few Relias Training courses before your first day
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with wide range of individuals, including staff
- Must abide by the company policies and procedures
- Must have valid CPR certification and valid Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card
- Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition and appearance
- Effectively organize and implement educational activities
- Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and moving throughout the room.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Experience as a Behavioral Technician desirable
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Helps carry out lesson plans and activities that are appropriate to the age group involved
- Ensures children are engaged and following their daily schedule
- Maintains interaction with children at all times during small and whole group interactive learning.
- Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere for the children at all times, following all safety procedures
- Be a positive role model to other staff members and students.
- Be proactive in becoming familiar with behavior therapy techniques
- Document student progress both academically and behaviorally in a Daily Parent Communication Log
- Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
- Performs all other duties as assigned
