Position Summary
We are a private clinic that provides Academic Support to individuals with autism. The Special Education Paraprofessional is responsible for creating an atmosphere that is positive for learning and that stimulates problem solving, decision-making, and behavior management with our clients--children with autism. The paraprofessional will work in a small classroom setting (1-3 clients at a time) alongside the Behavior Technicians, who are paired one-on-one with each client. This is a part time position and the hours are flexible, but they will fall between 8:30-2:30, Mon-Fri. It will begin in early August. You will be assisting our part-time Special Education teacher, who will not be onsite very often, therefore, this position will require leadership skills, such as a strong background in classroom management, leading a team, and implementing lessons. Because we service children with autism, the lessons sometimes need to be adjusted and you will need creativity and flexibility with the lesson plans. We are a fairly new company and there is room for growth and future opportunities, depending upon your performance and professionalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develops and implements lesson plans, and activities that are appropriate to the age group involved
- Works with the Behavior Technicians in the clinic-setting to ensure children are engaged and following their daily schedule
- Maintains interaction with children at all times during small and whole group interactive learning.
- Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere for the children at all times, following all safety procedures
- Be a positive role model and Mentor to other staff members and students.
- Be proactive in learning and becoming familiar with ABA and other behavior therapy techniques
- Document student progress both academically and behaviorally
- Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
- Supervises children in classroom and outside on outings or fieldtrips
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience working in a special education setting, preferably experience with autism
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with wide range of individuals, including staff and parents.
- Must abide by the company policies and procedures
- Must have valid CPR certification and valid Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card
- Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition and appearance
- Effectively organize and implement, and lead educational activities
- Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and moving throughout the room.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Experience as a Behavioral Technician very desirable
Benefits and Pay:
Hourly pay ranges from $18-$20/hour depending upon experience.
