Special Ed Paraprofessional/Behavior Tech

Salary Range:  $19.00 - $21.00 hour

Position Summary

We are a private clinic that provides academic support to children with autism. This position will require leadership skills, such as a strong background in classroom management, leading a team, and creating lessons.  (Not simply following lesson plans that were created for you.)  Because we service children with autism, the lessons occasionally need to be adjusted, and you will need creativity and flexibility with the lesson plans. The candidate will work in a small classroom  setting (1-3 clients at a time) alongside the Behavior Technicians, who are paired one-on-one with each client. This position is from 8:15-4:30.  Candidates must be able to work those hours.  You will spend half the day as a special ed para, and the other half of the day as a Behavior Technician, performing 1-to-1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA Therapy) with our clients.  

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge and Skills)

  • MUST have previous classroom/teaching experience.  Leading a classroom and creating lesson plans a plus.  
  • Must have experience working in a special education setting, preferably experience with autism. 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be willing to complete the ABA Therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) 40-Hour Relias Training course before your first day. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with wide range of individuals, including staff and parents.
  • Must abide by the company policies and procedures
  • Must have valid CPR certification and valid Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card
  • Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition and appearance
  • Effectively organize and implement, and lead educational activities
  • Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and moving throughout the room.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience as a Behavioral Technician very desirable 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops and implements lesson plans, and activities that are appropriate to the age group involved   
  • Works with the Behavior Technicians in the clinic-setting to ensure children are engaged and following their daily schedule  
  • Maintains interaction with children at all times during small and whole group interactive learning.
  • Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere for the children at all times, following all safety procedures
  • Be a positive role model and Mentor to other staff members and students.
  • Be proactive in learning and becoming familiar with ABA and other behavior therapy techniques
  • Document student progress both academically and behaviorally
  • Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
  • Supervises children in classroom and outside on outings or fieldtrips
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
