Special Education Teacher

Salary Range:  $32.00 - $40.00 hour

Position Summary

We are a private clinic that provides Academic Support to individuals with autism. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing the academic activities. The teacher must feel comfortable working with children of all ages with varying degrees of behaviors. They will also provide a positive atmosphere for learning that stimulates problem solving and decision-making with our clients. They will work in a small classroom setting (1-3 clients at a time) alongside the Behavior Technicians, who are paired 1:1 with each client.  This is a part-time position where the hours range between 8:00AM-4:00 PM.  This position entails a traditional school schedule that begins in early August.   We are a growing company and there is room for additional responsibilities and the option for full-time. Hourly pay ranges from $32-40/hour depending upon experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Creates and implements lesson plans and activities that are appropriate to the age group involved   
  • Works with the Behavior Technicians in the clinic-setting to ensure children are engaged and following their daily schedule  
  • Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere for the children at all times, following all safety procedures
  • Follow the curriculum guideline based on the AZ Education Standards and outlined by the Academic Team
  • Turns in weekly lesson plans to the Academic Team Lead
  • Send out weekly newsletters to families
  • Create and monitor each child’s Student Success Plan and update it quarterly
  • Plan, prepare, and schedule the quarterly progress report meetings with parents and team.
  • Measure progress and accomplishment of students towards their academic and behavior achievements on a regular basis and provide quarterly progress reports to parents and the team.
  • Attend the weekly ABA/Academic Team Meeting to recognize issues students are facing and develop solutions
  • Be a positive role model and Mentor to other staff members and students.
  • Be proactive in learning and becoming familiar with ABA and other behavior therapy techniques
  • Document student progress both academically and behaviorally
  • Attend additional trainings and staff meetings as assigned
  • Plan and coordinate monthly community outings and/or experiences, while collaborating with the BCBA
  • Supervises children in classroom and outside on outings or fieldtrips
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must have a current AZ Special Education Teaching Certificate
  • Experience working with children with autism preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with wide range of individuals, including staff and parents.
  • Must abide by the company policies and procedures
  • Must have valid CPR certification and valid Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card
  • Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition and appearance
  • Effectively organize and implement educational activities
  • Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and moving throughout the room.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience as a Behavioral Technician very desirable
