MH Miles Company is looking for a Business Development Specialist who will be responsible for providing information on the purpose of the Business Development program, the eligibility requirements for participation in program, and the application process. The Business Development Specialist will be collaborating with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, Small Businesses and Veteran Own Businesses to build relationships, train, advise, and develop strategies towards their becoming eligible businesses for routine maintenance opportunities with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). This role’s primary function will be to provide supportive services to clients and develop mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to small businesses to aid in development of small business principles and strategies to enhance their ability to compete successfully.
- Assist in conducting training to small businesses eligible to apply for all programs
- Research and coordinate training related materials to meet the needs of small businesses and SBA services.
- Assist in coordinating with the agency to meet compliance requirements
- Assist in providing basic advice/counseling to assist firm in the development of realistic and attainable objectives for their business regarding federal contracting.
- Asist in providing basic advice, counsel, and guidance in the areas of marketing to federal government and contract administration.
- Provides written guidance to small businesses to aid in development of small business principles and strategies.
- Meet with Clients: Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE), Small Businesses and Veteran Owned Businesses regarding routine maintenance opportunities with the Georgia Department of Transportation
- Educate, advise, and train clients on processes and application requirements necessary to become approved for routine maintenance projects
- Collaborate with organizations and agencies to increase the pool of eligible businesses
- Develop and implement strategies to assist firms with increasing their ability to bid on GDOT projects and to assist firms with improving their chances to be awarded routine maintenance projects
- Provide guidance to eligible firms on completing required application for Georgia Department of Transportation
- Develop, conduct, and contribute to the development of training workshops on pertinent processes, required experience, business infrastructure, routine maintenance opportunities, responding to 2 bids, and related topics for pursuing and performing on routine maintenance opportunities (in person training, webinars, etc.)
- Develop and present information at outreach meetings throughout the GDOT seven districts
- Establish mutually beneficial relationships with clients, GDOT engineering staff and GDOT EEO staff
- Provide technical assistance directly and/or through referrals to technical assistance resources to assist firms with establishing, improving and maintaining a sufficient business infrastructure that will assist firms with pursuing and performing on routine maintenance opportunities
- Conduct assessments of a firm’s experience, infrastructure, human resources and financial position to determine strengths and weaknesses related to pursing and performing on routine maintenance opportunities.
- Become familiar with GDOT’s overall contracting practices to comprehensively assist firms with taking advantage of GDOT programs and opportunities outside of routine maintenance
- Travel as required to meet with assigned clients/districts- average <25%
- Formulate recommendations and solutions with attention to improving effectiveness and efficiency of the SSFP Business Help Center
- Other activities to support contract deliverables
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- BA Degree or Higher
- Knowledge of transportation industry
- Thorough and analytical, with capability to solve problems
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and work effectively with individuals
- Initiative to actively seek new knowledge and improve skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications
- Willingness to take ownership of tasks and problems which may extend beyond initial scope of responsibility
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Must be a US Citizen
- Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license
Schedule
- 8 am to 5 am, Monday – Friday
- Hybrid (3 days on site, 2 days work from home)
