Assistant Project Manager

Salary Range:  $85000 - $105000 year

Job Description:

Under general direction, perform a variety of increasingly complex and technical duties related to the District’s facilities planning and construction program; provide project coordination and management support to department activities and projects; prepare and maintain a variety of records related to facilities planning and construction. Scope of services to include, but are not limited to:

• Provide project coordination and management support to department activities and projects; assure compliance with applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.

• Prepare and maintain of a variety of reports, records and files related to assigned activities; maintain data for long and short-range planning; compose written and oral communications to convey information in accordance with District policies and procedures.

• Review, analyze and make recommendations for professional services contracts.

• Oversee facility planning and design contracts; review architectural plans for conformance to functional facility relationships and growth possibilities; coordinate the involvement of District departments in the facilities planning and design process.

• Plan the renovation, modernization and construction of District facilities including schools, portable classrooms and other support facilities.

• Assist in performing fiscal analysis related to facilities planning and construction accounting, budgeting, invoicing and payment requests.

• Monitor accounts to assure funds are appropriately expended and assure compliance with applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.

• Serve as a liaison between District personnel and outside agencies regarding facilities planning activities; communicate with District staff, consultants and representatives of public agencies regarding planning requirements, schedules and issues.

• Manage a variety of special projects as directed; research, apply and maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.

• Utilize a variety of advisory data and information including budgets and schedules, to assist in making appropriate decisions supporting the interests of the District.

• Provide information to Facilities management regarding assigned functions; provide advisement of unusual trends or problems and recommend appropriate corrective action.

• Assist in construction closeout in coordination for moving services.

• Prepare Request for Proposals (RFP) and Request for Qualifications (RFQ); analyze the scope and cost of contractor and consultant proposals; review project plans and specifications prior to bids; participate in pre-bid walks and bid openings.

• Operate a computer and assigned software to input data and develop reports; Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Bluebeam, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software; drive a personal vehicle to conduct work and visit sites.

• Attend and represent the District in a variety of meetings, conferences and governmental hearings as assigned; prepare and deliver oral presentations as assigned.

• Prepare and deliver oral presentations as requested.


Qualifications:

Required Education: 4 Ways to meet the education requirement:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management

OR

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Candidate must be able to complete the Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential within one (1) year of employment in the Facilities Services Division of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

OR

  • College undergraduate but possess more than 20 years of Construction or Project Management experience, and must complete the Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential within one (1) year of employment in the Facilities Services Division..

OR

  • Possession of a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential which may substitute for the required education

 

Preferred Licenses and Certificates

  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
