CMI Group Aerospace & Defense, a leader in the manufacturing sector with an impressive portfolio in both the aerospace and defense industries, is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer. This full-time position is based at our facility located at 2688 E Rose Garden Lane, Phoenix, AZ, and is not eligible for remote work. The role demands a proactive and diligent professional ready to contribute significantly to our procurement processes in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The chosen candidate will be instrumental in driving the efficiency and effectiveness of our supply chain operations, ultimately ensuring that project deliverables meet the cost, quality, and schedule requirements. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive supplier material delivery in line with key customer requirements.
  • Plan, schedule, and administrate purchase orders to ensure material is delivered on time.
  • Escalate within supplier and CMI for demand-supply gaps.
  • Capable of sending out RFQ’s and evaluating supplier quotes.
  • Track multiple procurements by supplier and manage supplier improvement.
  • Develop and source new products, achieving cost, quality, and delivery targets on new product introductions.
  • Develop supplier relationships (new and existing) and drive supplier performance.
  • Drive key metrics including supplier OTTR, PO acknowledgment, forecast alignment, past due, and decommits.
  • Demonstrate an active commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Lead Time.
  • Act as an intermediary between vendors and internal customers to resolve fabrication, cost, and schedule issues.
  • Proactively provide updates to management and the engineering team on all critical supply issues.
  • Initiate long-term agreement negotiations with strategic suppliers.
  • Manage purchased inventory, including tracking stock levels, reorder points, and lead times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business, or a similar technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of procurement experience.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects, up to 35 lbs.
  • Experience with and understanding of engineering drawings and customer approval lists.
  • Good technical knowledge of procurement and sourcing of both parts and special processing.
  • Experience in or supporting an Aerospace manufacturing environment, including machining, sheet metal, castings, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and confidently with internal/external customers at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Intermediate MS Excel knowledge (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, basic formulas).
  • Ability to multi-task projects and assess priorities in a complex and demanding environment.
  • Experience using database systems (ERP/MRP/MPS).
  • Well organized and exhibits follow through abilities.
  • Knowledgeable in lean purchasing and 5S strategies.
