Maintenance Mechanic

Salary Range:  $35.00 - $42.00 hour

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to ensure the efficient operation of all plant equipment while adhering to all safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience with manufacturing equipment, particularly packaging machinery. While knowledge of food machinery and ammonia refrigeration systems is highly desired, it is not required. Maintenance Mechanics from food production facilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely repair and maintain all plant production and packaging equipment following diagrams, sketches, operational manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using proper problem-solving techniques.
  • Dismantle equipment to remove defective parts and replace components such as gears, bearings, bushings, shafts, and motors.
  • Set up and operate lathes, drill presses, or milling machines for repairs or part fabrication as needed.
  • Inspect, adjust, and repair cookers, mixers, freezers, packaging machines, elevators, conveyors, boilers, and scale equipment.
  • Utilize measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, rules, and tape measures.
  • Complete work orders and planned maintenance documentation.
  • Identify and document spare parts needed, including part numbers and vendor information.
  • Work overtime as required for planned maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Notify management of any safety or equipment concerns.
  • Participate in safety and engineering meetings as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience working with manufacturing equipment; food manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with packaging machinery required.
  • Knowledge of electrical power and controls is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with bearing and gearbox maintenance.
  • Ability to read and follow preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Understanding of Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Welding experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to interpret and follow safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals.
  • Basic ability to write reports and correspondence.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Work in hot, cold, or loud environments.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires standing for long periods, frequent walking, and performing physical tasks such as reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Must have good vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
