Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with the individual educational program for an assigned child within a classroom. and is looking to hire Paraprofessionals for our Bronx location. We are looking to hire experienced 1:1 Paraprofessionals for our Bronx location.
IMPORTANT: This position is 100% on-site and candidates MUST live in the NYC area. Kennedy Children's Center is a year-round school and only works with children ages 3-5 years.
COMPENSATION: This role is per-diem role meaning Paraprofessionals are only paid the daily rate of $130 for days that they work a FULL shift when the school is open.
HOURS: Required schedule is Monday-Thursday 8:30am-3:30pm, and Fridays from 8:30am-3:00pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
● Assist with the implementation of the educational program of assigned child to facilitate involvement of the individual student in all classroom activities.● Follow the lesson plan as designed by the teacher to meet the individual special needs of assigned child.● Assist with the observation and evaluation of the child as designed by the teacher and other professionals.● Support the physical needs of the child’s well-being including toileting in a manner consistent with accepted procedures, dressing, feeding and other hygiene-related activities.● Maintain data as required by teacher and other professionals who work with the child● Assist in the embarking and discharging of children from the buses safely.● Assist with maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment● If bi-lingual, translate communications between teachers and families.● Actively participate in classroom team meetings● Perform other relevant duties and functions as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Minimum age of 18 years; H.S Diploma or H.S. equivalency required. Some college and/or Associate’s Degree preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ● Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and child development.● Able to follow direction.● Able to communicate effectively.● Supportive, positive and patient attitude.● Good computer skills including using software programs such as Word, Excel, Boardmaker, Google Meet, or Zoom.● Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs within the program and classroom● When working onsite, can consistently supervise children outside while exposed to the sun, rain, and/or weather and temperature changes adhering to the playground rules and gym play zones.● When working onsite, is able to stand for extended periods.● When working onsite, can consistently able to lift children up to 50 pounds from floor to waist height.● Consistently able to deal effectively with working closely with children, parents, co-workers, and administration, either in person or remotely.
