More than 25,000 children between 3-5 years old are mandated to receive special education preschool
services in New York City. However, a critical shortage of teacher assistants means that thousands of
children with disabilities are sitting at home, without a seat in a classroom. Kennedy Children's Center
(KCC) is addressing this critical staffing shortage through Grow Your Own (GYO), a six-week training
program that recruits adults from low-income communities and trains them to become certified ECSE
teacher assistants, at no cost to them. You can learn more about GYO at www.kenchild.org/gyo.
Our Workforce Coordinators (WFCs) are key to GYO's success. Each WFC recruits participants for
quarterly training cohorts, manages the six week training, and helps graduates secure positions in
education upon program completion. We are seeking an organized, flexible team player who is
passionate about high quality education to join our small but mighty team and make a difference in the
lives of adult learners and the children they will teach!
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
● Recruitment:
○ Recruit for training cohorts by advertising in the community, and research/maintain
relationships with recruitment partners
○ Interview prospective candidates to determine eligibility for the program, keeping in
mind criteria that may be required by GYO's funders or partners
○ Ensure compliance with all intake paperwork, in collaboration with KCC HR as necessary
● Training Management:
○ Coordinate and present the six-week GYO 1.0 training curriculum for cohorts of up to 15
people, 4 to 5 times per year
○ Schedule outside training, including mandated training, tutoring, and test taking
○ Coordinate classroom internships in partnership with school staff
○ Assist trainees with job placement upon graduation, and provide continuing
employment counseling as needed
● Other:
○ Maintain required paperwork before, during, and after training cohorts
○ Collaborate with other Workforce Coordinators as necessary
○ Collect and provide participant and graduate data upon request
QUALIFICATIONS:
● BA or BS in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology or related field
preferred
● At least two years experience in workforce development, human resources, or related field, and
knowledge of human resource activities (recruiting, applications, interviewing, hiring, etc.)

● Highly organized and comfortable writing and formatting professional documents free from
spelling or formatting errors.
● Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to conduct group presentations.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) / Google Suite and willing to learn new software.
● Comfortable working collaboratively in a program that is growing and evolving. Flexibility and
adaptability are key, as well as a positive and respectful attitude
