RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Provide mandated counseling services to children according to IEP mandates. Work with school administrative director to refer student to CPSE for FBA if required. Reviews/revises behavior improvement plans (BIPs) with school team and communicates plan with family/caregiver. Provides support to assist classroom staff with collection of data as identified in BIP. Meets and/or follows up with families to make assessments that specifically identifies concern and support needed Develops and implements positive behavior support and management techniques in the classroom for children who are demonstrating significant behaviors that are impacting upon classroom dynamics and structure. Trains classroom and related services staff with regard to behavior management techniques. Direct parents to community resources, such as food assistance, childcare and substance abuse programs. Works with school team to identify families in need of additional support Respond appropriately to signs of abuse or neglect Develops needed interventions and communicates to school team. Assists school teams and parents in providing concrete tools to treat aggressive and oppositional behavior through a detailed, written plan that involves positive behavior support, problem-solving skills and community references. QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Licensed Certified Social Worker/certified is required Bilingual (Spanish speaking) is highly preferred, but not required . Previous experience in working with families of children with disabilities in the NYC area is strongly preferred. Experience with providing play therapy to children who receive counseling as part of their mandated IEP services. Ability to engage and manage small groups of parents to provide ongoing support and guidance on timely and appropriate issues for a preschool special education environment. Team driven individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Kennedy Children’s Center may assign employees to duties and locations as it deems necessary at its discretion.
