JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for the provision of nursing services as required by agency programs.

IMPORTANT: This position is 100% on-site and candidates MUST live in the NYC area before application is submitted. Kennedy Children's Center is a year-round school and only works with children ages 3-5 years.

Kennedy Children's Center is hiring a school nurse for our Bronx location.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Ensure that all immunizations and physical exams are up to date and serve as the liaison with parents with respect to the children’s needs as appropriate, including Health Care Plans.
• Respond to, provide follow up on, complete reports and maintain records on all medical incidents, emergencies and accidents.
• Administer, record, monitor and review all prescription and non-prescription medications and any information related to the child’s reactions to such medication. Handle prescription medication in accordance with Regulations and the Health Care Plans.
• Provide first aid as needed.
• Maintain first aid and medical supplies, and medical equipment in accordance with Agency policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Provide consultation and education on health and hygiene issues of classes as well as individual children.
• Maintain daily medication records and statistics and ensure that all consents for medication are up to date.
• Monitor the school environment to ensure adequate infection control procedures.
• Provide on – call medical emergency coverage while children are in the day programs.
• Cooperate in the securing of the needed Occupational and Physical Therapy prescriptions.
• Perform other assigned duties as defined and directed by the Medical Consultant and/or director, Health and Social Service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registered nurse in the State of New York AND previous experience with pediatrics required. Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree (Required).
• BLS Certification (Preferred)
