Position Summary:
The Director of Safety at MMI Industrial & Steel is responsible for overseeing and enhancing safety protocols across both field operations and facility/shop environments. This role ensures that all safety standards are met, promoting a safety-first culture across the organization, and mitigating risks in all aspects of our operations, from construction sites to manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety Strategy and Planning:
o Develop and implement a comprehensive safety strategy that addresses the unique risks associated with both field operations and facility/shop environments.
o Establish and enforce safety policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to diverse operational settings.
• Training and Education:
o Design and deliver safety training programs for employees across field sites and facilities, ensuring relevance to each environment.
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and ensure ongoing education on new safety practices and compliance requirements.
• Risk Assessment and Management:
o Conduct regular safety inspections and audits across both field and facility/shop environments to identify hazards and ensure immediate corrective actions.
o Implement risk mitigation strategies for machinery, equipment, and operational processes, customized to each work setting.
• Compliance and Reporting:
o Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards, in both field and facility operations.
o Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory agencies, covering all operational environments.
• Incident Investigation:
o Lead thorough investigations into any incidents or near misses occurring in the field or within the facility/shop, identifying root causes and developing corrective actions.
o Implement continuous improvement measures based on investigation outcomes to prevent future occurrences.
• Safety Culture and Engagement:
o Promote a strong culture of safety awareness and responsibility throughout the organization, ensuring engagement from all employees, whether in the field or facility.
o Collaborate with leadership and staff across all operations to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in safety management, with significant experience in both construction fieldwork and industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Process safety management experience preferred (PSM, 1910.119)
• Proven track record of developing and implementing effective safety programs for diverse operational settings.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards, specifically for both construction and manufacturing sectors.
• OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500 certification preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent is desirable.

• Collaboration: Works well with cross-functional teams, building strong relationships with management, staff, and external stakeholders to promote a unified approach to safety.
