Safety Coordinator

MMI is an industrial contractor and steel fabricating company based in Mesa, Arizona.  MMI has been in business since 1974 and continues to grow each year.  We are very proud of the more than 200 loyal members of our team and are looking for individuals to contribute at a very high level. 

MMI Is looking to hire a Safety Coordinator who will coordinate and execute our construction-based corporate safety program, specifically focusing on structural steel fabrication facilities and field crews. The ideal candidate will collaborate with Safety Leads, interface with our safety consultant, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. The position requires a proven track record in safety coordination, a deep understanding of OSHA standards, and excellent communication skills.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate Safety Program: Oversee and manage the company's safety program, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Develop and implement safety policies and procedures. Manage and maintain the EHS manual. Manage and maintain the company PPE program.
  2. Interface with Safety Consultant: Collaborate with the company's safety consultant to assess and improve safety protocols. Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging safety trends.
  3. Collaborate with Safety Leads: Work closely with Safety Leads across different projects and departments to identify and address safety concerns. Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  4. Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses. Analyze root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of changes in safety regulations and ensure the company's practices align with current standards. Prepare reports for regulatory agencies as needed.
  6. Safety Audits: Conduct regular safety audits at fabrication facilities and on-site locations. Provide feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  7. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and update emergency response plans. Coordinate drills and exercises to ensure the preparedness of the workforce in the event of an emergency.
  8. Safety Training: Facilitate safety training programs for employees, emphasizing the importance of a safety-first culture. Ensure all employees are well-versed in safety protocols and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. OSHA 30 required. Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 500, CSP, CHST) are highly desirable.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety coordination, preferably in the construction industry. Familiarity with structural steel fabrication processes and field operations is a plus.
  3. Knowledge: Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices. Experience working with safety management systems is advantageous.
  4. Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to effectively convey safety information to diverse audiences and facilitate training sessions.
  5. Analytical Skills: Proficient in incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
  6. Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence a positive safety culture.
  7. Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations, and regulatory requirements.
  8. Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with safety management software is a plus.
