MMI is looking to hire an Estimator that has a bachelor’s degree in construction management, or equivalent related work experience.  Required to have a minimum of 3 years of related estimating experience, and relevant steel industry experience is preferred.  

The Estimator will collect and analyze information to estimate costs of fabrication and construction services for all MMI Industrial and Steel divisions including, structural steel install/erection, steel fabrication, industrial and semiconductor services, hoist/cranes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Estimates the cost of new and proposed services in the assigned projects and develops final pricing in a variety of formats such as lump sum, T&M, and unit pricing.
  • Complete all bid package requests and requirements.
  • Perform job walks and site visits to fully assess job requirements.  
  • Analyzes changes to services provided and price change orders.
  • Start, organize, and maintain bid file and job file.
  • Provides detailed reports that will include breakdowns of project costs and forecasts of remaining costs.
  • Documents data and statistical procedures used in conducting cost analysis.
  • Prepares job budget and job details for handoff to project management team.
  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labor and equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
  • Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations.
  • Establish and maintain tendering processes.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Manage and co-ordinate construction projects, and prepare construction progress schedules.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Construction drawing reading and comprehension.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficient with takeoff software (Tekla Powerfab, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
