Sr Mechanical Engineer

3636 N Central Ave, Ste., Phoenix, AZ 85012 • Engineering • Project Management • Full-Time

This is a senior technical position requiring current registration in the State of Arizona as a Professional Mechanical Engineer.

Typical Duties:

  • Plans, organizes, and checks work, gives instructions and assistance, and makes technical decisions in connection with the supervision of the work of a group of designers and drafting technicians engaged in making complete designs, construction drawings, and specifications of major mechanical installations, such as heating and air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, fire protection, plumbing, sewage collection systems, water supply and water purification systems, drainage systems, and steam generating plants.
  • Writes technical specifications
  • Prepares cost estimates of mechanical systems
  • Conducts detailed inspections of construction operations in the field
  • Conducts independent surveys covering installation, repair, and recommended improvements to mechanical systems
  • Prepares correspondence reports.
  • Business Development
    1. Assist Business Development Department in identifying potential clients and/or opportunities.
    2. Prepare project resumes, project descriptions, project data information as requested by Business Development Department for use in proposals and marketing materials.
    3. Participate in project interviews and presentations as requested by Business Development Department.
    4. Specialized marketing, as determined and directed by Business Development; of candidates skills may be required.
  • Initiating New Work
    1. Assume primary responsibility for assessing client needs and accountability in preparing project scopes of work and fee proposals.
    2. Assume primary responsibility for coordinating project scope of work and fee with in-house discipline (Architectural, Civil, Electrical), sub-consultants, and clients.
    3. Assume primary responsibility for negotiating fee proposals with clients and sub- consultants.
  • Managing Work
    1. Assume primary responsibility for organizing and executing work plans for projects assigned by Departmental Manager.
    2. Review project budget and schedule objectives with Departmental Manager
    3. Assist Accounting Department in input of project budget into software.
    4. Coordinate ongoing inter- and intra- departmental manpower requirements with GLHN Department Managers. 
    5. Modify work plans as necessary to adapt to dynamic corporate priorities.
    6. Coordinate sub consultant ma power requirements.
    7. Assess the impact of changes in project scope, prepare change order requests and negotiate change order amounts with client.
    8. Assume accountability in managing projects to meet budget and schedule
  • Studies and Assessments
    1. Assume primary responsibility for performing technical studies and assessments as assigned by Department Manager.
    2. Travel to sites as necessary to perform field work, meet with clients or present information. Overnight travel out of Tucson is required.
    3. Supervise work of GLHN engineers, drafters and clerical staff and subcontractors to provide quality product in a timely manner
    4. Seal technical studies and assessments as necessary to meet the requirements of client and/or the Arizona Board of Technical Registration.
  • Design and Construction Documents
    1. Assume primary responsibility for preparation of all phases of Construction Documents for projects assigned by Department Manager.
    2. Supervise and check work of engineers, designers, drafters, interns, clerical staff and sub consultants to provide quality product in a timely manner.
    3. Assure that all aspects of work prepared has been adequately coordinated with work of other in-house disciplines, outside architects and/or sub consultants.
    4. Seal construction documents as necessary to meet the requirements of client and/or the Arizona Board of Technical Registration
  • Construction Administration
    1. In cases where a GLHN Construction Administrator has been assigned to the project, provide timely response and assistance in resolving field issues. Supervise and check the work of the mechanical engineering department responses to contractor RFIs, Proposal Requests and Applications for Payment.
    2. In cases where a GLHN Construction Administrator has not been assigned to the project, coordinate construction administration activities with GLHN Department Managers and sub consultants. Supervise and check the work of mechanical department responses to contractor RFIs, Proposal Requests and Applications for Payment.
    3. Assume responsibility for client coordination and contract during construction administration period.
  • Departmental Standards
    1. Participate in departmental efforts to improve specification, drawing, calculation and production standards as requested by Departmental Manager.
    2. Participate in departmental efforts to educate and mentor junior engineers, designers and drafters.
  • Corporate Standards
    1. Follow current corporate standards and procedures for production, administration and accounting.
