Sr Civil Engineer

The Civil Engineering  Project Manager is a senior-level role working directly under the Civil Engineering Department Manager. The Civil Engineers primary responsibility is to provide project leadership and expertise on the design of Civil projects or Civil engineering aspects of multidiscipline projects;  plans, designs civil engineering projects, including analysis and engineering calculations under very general supervision of the Senior Civil Engineers and direct supervision of the Department Manager. Additionally, the position assists the Department Manager in planning, designing and leading civil engineering projects including studies, analysis and presentations while marketing GLHN’s civil services through business development efforts in line with GLHN’s strategic plan for the Phoenix Office while working in a team environment to accomplish project deadlines and goals. 

 

 TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

o Prepares and monitors project budgets for projects 

o Responsible for adherence to project schedules and timely completion of smaller projects 

o Serves as primary project technical spokesperson and as a designated client contact 

o Assists in the coordination of pricing, estimating, scoping and marketing strategies for proposed projects 

o Assists in the preparation of engineering agreements for his/her projects within the department 

o Prepares design computations and quantity estimates 

o Research code and agency issues and coordination with code/agency officials in resolving questions/issues 

o Develops probable construction cost opinions for his/her projects within the department 

o Attends client meetings -- days or nights 

o Responsible for control of work-in-process 

o Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, test and aerial photographs to plan and design project 

o Researches design options and prepares findings and recommendations 

o Directs and supervises the activities of designers and junior engineers 

o Handles routine delegated contract administration issues 

o Organize and maintain project files 

o Maintains neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to information required by others 

o Prepares or modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies and designs for project 

o Instructs CADD technicians to reduce designs to working drawings 

o Visits construction site to monitor projects and other duties per the contract documents. 

o Reviews shop drawing and contractor submittals 

o Serves as on-site project representative 

o Uses computer programs and spreadsheets for engineering analysis, reports and presentations 

o Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents 

o Assures that drawings and designs are in accordance with company and/or agency production and design standards 

o Keeps Department Manager and/or Project Manager informed of work load and any changes in project scope or additional services 

o Reads, analyzes and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations 

o Prepares reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals 

o Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public 

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

o Licensed/Registered Civil Engineer, PE 

o Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university 

o 10+ years of relevant and progressive experience 

o Proficient use in MS Office as well as discipline-specific and project management software applications 

o Skills in business development and client relationship management
