Opportunity Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of mechanical HVAC engineering on buildings and utility infrastructure projects. The individual will also be required to lead MEP/FP coordination efforts on several projects. This position requires the candidate to be able to interact with clients, architects, and contractors.


Core Responsibilities

The following assignments are typical but are not all-encompassing.  Every team member is expected to provide equal value by participating in the duties required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

  • Supervision of mechanical design for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems including engineering related calculations and development of drawings.
  • Develop system narratives
  • Review / Edit Specifications
  • QA/QC of Mechanical designs
  • Able to manage teams and projects with minimal supervision
  • Assist in proposal development
  • Reports directly to Mechanical Engineering Department Manager
  • Works closely with a variety of staff across all disciplines to ensure project success,

What we need to see

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6+ years of related experience, which includes experience and skills in mechanical systems building design, project management, and team leadership
  • 6+ years’ experience and an understanding of Mechanical/HVAC systems for higher educational facilities, central plants and utility infrastructure, federal, corporate, commercial, medical, laboratory, and industrial facilities
  • Perform work in field environments including elevated areas, confined spaces, outdoors, mechanical rooms, etc. Perform physical activities as required to complete on site job activities.
  • Able to travel for assignments to project locations.

  • Full understanding and ability to complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments with ability to review team member’s work for quality and recognition of training requirements
  • Experience building HVAC infrastructure including but not limited to chilled water systems, condensing water systems, CHP, thermal distribution, hot water, steam and air side systems.
  • Experience with sustainable design and energy efficiency projects
  • Experience with Design Build and other Alternative Delivery practices
  • Successfully performed the role of a lead engineer on various projects and acted as the PM covering electrical and plumbing trades, in addition to the mechanical trade
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to bring energy and enthusiasm to the office
  • Eager to be part of an organization that is built to create a better world
  • Mechanical or electrical design experience in HVAC and controls. Functional working knowledge and problem-solving ability for M/E/P and building automation systems.
