Hardwood Lumber Grader/ (NHLA certified)

Salary Range:  $18.00 - $26.00 hour

HERS is hiring for a Hardwood Lumber Grader must be NHLE certified or equivalent experience 

Permanent position as a Hardwood Lumber Grader. ONLY apply if you have NHLA grading experience.

MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 7:00PM TO 7:00AM GRAVEYARD POSITION

· Visually inspects green and/or dry hardwood lumber according to species, grade and dimension

· Grade at production rates, while maintaining the required grading accuracy

· Uses NHLA lumber grading rules to inspect lumber

· Ability to grade at production rates, while maintaining the required grading accuracy

Apply grade rules to maximize lumber profitability

Job Description: Full-time position inspecting lumber according to NHLA hardwood grading rules and in-house grading standards. Examine both faces of a board to assign a grade, or make trimming or edging decisions to increase the value of the piece. PRIOR LUMBER GRADING EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF NHLA GRADING RULES IS REQUIRED.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Your primary responsibility is to work safely, and help maintain a safe work environment through the facility.
  • Grade dry hardwood lumber at production rates, while maintaining the required grading accuracy.
  • Work with millwrights and maintenance to assist with preventative and minor maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, uncluttered work area.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Physical fitness: this job requires exertion of more than 50 pounds occasionally, and more than 20 pounds continuously
  • Must be proactive, positive self starter who works well with other members of the team.
  • Must have a desire to continually improve professionally and have a willingness to apply ones knowledge and skills to the betterment of the company.
  • Wear/use a variety of personal protective equipment per company and OSHA standards.

ce: Minimum 2 years hardwood lumber grading experience required.
