HERS is recruiting a Structural Welder & Fitter. This candidate will weld pieces of metal together as their core duty. The position requires a candidate with construction knowledge. In addition to welding, fabricate and construct structural

Plan, lay-out, weld, install and repair all types of structural steel products in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Will be working pre-existing structures. Must be able to fabricate and weld. This is a travel job. Must be ok with heights and tight spaces.

Description:

Structural welders weld metal on structures and tools of all types. These professionals also perform repairs on metal pieces to prevent structural fatigue. The Fitters fabricate and construct structural metal items. Must have at least thre  years of structual experience. Must be abler to pass weldinmg test. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Structural Welders:  - Inspect planned and existing projects and tools for flaws that may compromise structural integrity. Structural welders must perform regular maintenance on metal projects to ensure that they remain safe and strong. Structural welders look for potential problems in welded projects and structures, and identify weaknesses before they create structural integrity issues. At all times, structural welders must follow and maintain safety standards 

Structural Fitters: Read and interpret blueprints and determine how to build items to designs. Structural fitters use torches and tools to cut and shape metal pieces. They measure all metal pieces to ensure they conform to needed specifications, often grinding and shaving metal to ensure it meets specific measurements. Structural fitters install and align metal parts by hand and by using various tools. Fitters lift metal pieces into place using hoists and cranes. They also design molds to create metal parts to specifications

Qualifications:

• 3-5 yrs experience welding with one-year construction experience.   
• Reading blueprints and schematics – structural welders must know how to read blueprints, schematics, and design drawings of all types.
• Measuring abilities – structural welders must know how to work with and read measuring tools of all kinds, from basic rulers to calipers.
• Manual dexterity – structural welders have to be good with their hands, because even one mistake can cause serious injury or accident.
• Physical ability – structural welders must climb, crawl, and weld in a variety of positions that include laying down, sitting, and standing, so people in this position must have the physical ability to successfully perform these tasks.

• Read Blueprints - Structural fitters read and interpret blueprints and determine how to build items to design.
• Cut and Shape Metal - Structural fitters use torches and tools to cut and shape metal pieces. They measure all metal pieces to ensure they conform to needed specifications, often grinding and shaving metal to ensure it meets specific measurements.
• Install Pieces - Structural fitters install and align metal parts by hand and by using various tools.
• Lift Metal - Structural fitters lift metal pieces into place using hoists and cranes.
• Weld Metal - Structural fitters weld metal pieces together using proper tools and safety equipment.

• QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education – High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) Preferred
  • Experience – Structural welding experience; must pass welder certification test.
  • Must have a working knowledge of various welding processes, coeds, techniques and methods related to structural steel welding.
  • Must read and understand plans and specifications, including diagrams, prints, orthographic and isometric drawings and visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.

  • Bending, Stooping, Kneeling and Reaching
  • Ability to stand for lengthy periods of time

  Required Skills:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience welding.
