This role is designed for compassionate individuals who are dedicated to providing care, support, and presence to those at the end of their life journey. VistaRiver is committed to offering holistic and supportive environments not only for our patients but also for their families during these tender times.

Please note that this position is a volunteer role and is not a remote job. Volunteers will provide their services directly at patient locations, which include patient homes, hospice centers, or care facilities. We at VistaRiver value the contribution of each volunteer and provide the necessary training and support to ensure that you are well-prepared and confident in your role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comfort and companionship to hospice patients, honoring their dignity and respecting their cultural values.
  • Assist in creating a peaceful environment for patients and their families.
  • Support family members by giving them short breaks, listening to their concerns, and sharing useful coping strategies under professional guidance.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and training sessions to enhance the quality of care provided.
  • Maintain communication with hospice staff and the volunteer coordinator to provide updates and receive support.
  • Respect all privacy and confidentiality aspects related to patient care and hospice operations.
  • Follow all hospice policies and safety protocols diligently.

Requirements

  • Compassionate and caring nature with genuine empathy for others.
  • Respectful and nonjudgmental attitude towards diverse beliefs and cultures.
  • Dependable with a commitment to fulfill scheduled visits and long-term engagement of 6-12 months.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, including the ability to be comfortable with silence.
  • Completion of Hospice Volunteer Training covering hospice philosophy, patient care basics, and confidentiality.
  • Professional and ethical with strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Must complete background checks, health clearance, and have reliable transportation.
  • Commitment to self-care, recognizing personal emotional limits, and seeking support when needed.
