Salary Range:  $18.00 - $28.00 hour


JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for fitting and welding of parts using a MIG, TIG, stick welders, air arc machine,

and cutting torches as directed by standard work documents.  Must be able to read engineering sketches, drawings, and understand welding symbols. Maintain a consistent workflow to ensure safe operation, quality product and consistent delivery.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Confirm that all parts are available and correct before welding and fitting begins.  Any discrepancies or problems are to be discussed with shop foreman. 
  • Lay out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Determines required equipment, welding method and welding techniques.
  • Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
  • Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
  • Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Follow blueprints to arrange metal pieces and temporarily fix them into position before welding.
  • Assemble parts and tack per prints, drawings or by instruction of supervisor or shop foreman.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Perform equipment inspections prior to use.
  • Work with team to balance workload to meet On Time Delivery goals.
  • Manage company resources to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction.
  • Deburr and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.
  • Maintain professionalism in speech and action at all times.
  • Use various hand tools such as cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, tape measures, scrapers, grinders, and other types of finishing tools to ensure a quality product.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure parts to ensure conformance with specifications (weld, clean up splatter, grind areas if needed)
  • Informs Shop Foreman of any problems with parts or discrepancies with shop drawings.
  • Prepare items for inspection and notify shop foreman.
  • Required to follow all company policies.
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned by Management.
  • Operate related equipment including forklifts, hoists, and slings.
  • Keep work area clean, neat and orderly to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits while preforming the job function.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.     Continual use of hands, considerable arms, and legs as well as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. without physical restrictions.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE at all times such as safety glasses, welding helmets, hearing protection, gloves and safety toe boots.
  • Able to work in hot and cold environments during summer and winter months.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Must pass internal welding test.
  • Must have the ability to read blueprints, layout parts to print, weld to print.
  • Ability to understand and follow standard work.
  • Knowledge of welding hazards and safety rules and procedures.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2 years of experience welding.
  • High School/GED diploma preferred but not required.
  • Able to work overtime if needed.
