Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform initial dental assessments and consult with dentists on patient care.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans prescribed by the dentist.
  • Clean and help protect patients’ teeth (e.g., remove plaque, polish teeth).
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays).
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling).
  • Assess dental condition and needs of patient using patient screening procedures, including medical history review and dental charting.
  • Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides).
  • Make impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs).
  • Document treatment plans and care performed by updating patients’ dental records.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect the dental office by keeping information confidential in accordance with professional and legal standards.
  • Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating equipment repair.
  • Enhance dental office reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Carry out agreed clinical treatments to the highest standards from effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity perspectives.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with the procedures, rules, and regulations of dental and safety standards.
  • Continuously update professional knowledge and practical skills by participating in educational opportunities, professional organizations, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Dental Hygienist license in the state of practice.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Strong working knowledge of dental procedures, tools, and diagnostics.
  • Excellent understanding of dental hygiene procedures.
  • Knowledge of dental software and proficiency in digital radiography.
  • Superb interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced, varied environment handling multiple tasks and treatment rooms.
  • Physical ability to perform typical tasks associated with dental hygiene (including standing for extended periods, precise hand coordination, and adequate vision).
  • Passion for engaging with and educating patients about oral health practices.
  • Willingness to comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding dental and health care.
  • Commitment to continuing education in dental hygiene and related fields.
