About This Role:
DiscoverU Health is seeking a Healthcare Management Intern to join our team in supporting health equity and improving care access in underserved communities. This role offers an immersive experience in healthcare administration, EHR system, strategic project management, and policy analysis. The primary task will include enhancing our EMR system to better serve underserved communities in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area. Candidates will have the opportunity to apply their advanced skills and academic training to real-world challenges, while contributing to DiscoverU Health's mission of improving health equity and access to care in minority metropolitan communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact in a mission-driven, remote environment. College credit is available for this internship.
Responsibilities:
- EHR System Management with eClinicalWorks: Assist in the maintenance and analysis of data within eClinicalWorks, using the system to gather patient insights, generate reports, and support decision-making processes. Provide recommendations on maximizing system capabilities to improve patient care quality.
- Outreach and Community Engagement: Support outreach efforts to engage with community organizations, local healthcare providers, and external stakeholders. Assist in building partnerships that enhance access to healthcare services, promote health equity, and raise awareness of DiscoverU Health’s initiatives in underserved communities.
- Strategic Project Development: Collaborate with CEO on high-impact projects with the EHR aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery models and improving patient outcomes. Assist in planning, executing, and evaluating strategic initiatives that align with DiscoverU Health’s mission.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Collect, analyze, and interpret healthcare data to assess the effectiveness of current practices and recommend actionable improvements. Work closely with providers to assist with adding their information into the eCW platform during onboarding, including details such as profile pictures, bios, and other relevant data. Utilize data to support evidence-based recommendations and drive operational efficiencies in the EHR, helping to enhance patient care and streamline processes.
- Healthcare Policy Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on relevant healthcare policies, industry regulations, and emerging trends to assess their impact on organizational operations and patient care models.
- Operational and Financial Analysis: Analyzing budget data, forecasting costs, and identifying areas for financial improvement within healthcare operations. Contribute to efforts that maximize resource efficiency and patient service levels.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Work with associated team members to review healthcare practices, and providers, ensuring adherence to current laws, ethical standards, and industry best practices. Support quality assurance efforts to uphold DiscoverU Health’s high standards in patient care and safety.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community organizations, and patients, to gather insights, communicate program objectives, and foster collaborative partnerships.
- Process Improvement Initiatives: Assist with the CEO in developing and implementing process improvement strategies within the healthcare management system to enhance patient experiences and streamline operations.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s program in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, policy, and strategic management, with experience or coursework in EHR systems, preferably eClinicalWorks or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets) and navigating eClinicalWorks, with the ability to extract and analyze patient data for evidence-based recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting from a remote setting on the findings and recommendations to senior management at company scheduled quarterly meetings.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
