Position Overview

Abacus Engineering is excited to announce the availability of a full-time position for a Structural Professional Engineer (PE) specializing in the design of steel and concrete structures. This crucial role is designed for an individual who is prepared to make a significant impact in shaping the built environment of Waco and thereby contributing to the continued success of our firm. This position is not eligible for remote work, requiring the successful candidate to engage directly with our dynamic team and projects on-site.

Job Description

The Structural Professional Engineer will lead and facilitate all aspects of structural design, from the initial concept to the completion of construction. As an integral member of our team, you will leverage your specialized knowledge in steel and concrete building design to ensure that all projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Structural Design:
    • Lead the structural design process for all steel and concrete buildings, overseeing the process from conception through completion.
    • Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations to ensure all designs comply with necessary safety, quality, and performance standards.
    • Prepare comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation required for project implementation.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work in close partnership with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and coordination of design efforts.
    • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other project support staff.
    • Regularly partake in project meetings, conduct site visits, and manage on-site inspections to guarantee adherence to design specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, new technologies, and updates to codes and standards to improve design practices and outcomes continually.

Requirements

  • Educational and Professional Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; a Master’s degree is preferable.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Texas.
    • Minimum of five years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a significant focus on the design of steel and concrete structures.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Advanced proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, or similar.
    • Comprehensive understanding of relevant building codes and standards, including but not limited to IBC, ACI, and AISC.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and communicating complex technical concepts to stakeholders without technical expertise.
  • Professional Attitude and Ethic:
    • A proven track record of delivering high-quality work on time and within budget constraints.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and contribute positively to a team's culture and development.
