Our programs are designed to promote peace in the home and the community through a comprehensive strategy of prevention and intervention. 

The On Call Shelter Advocate ensures the safety and well-being of shelter residents while supporting their progress toward personal goals through compassionate oversight of facility activities and crisis intervention. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage 24-hour crisis hotline, including answering calls and maintaining detailed logs 
  • Coordinate with Social Services Program Manager and Case Managers to ensure comprehensive client care 
  • Supervise client and volunteer activities during assigned shifts 
  • Document and address house rule violations following established protocols 
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution, including:
    • Administering basic first aid 
    • Coordinating with emergency services when necessary
    • De-escalating crisis situations 
  • Monitor clients' self-administration of medication 
  • Maintain detailed daily logs of shelter activities and conditions 
  • Secure facility and grounds to ensure the safety of all occupants and property 
  • Support operations across multiple program sites 
  • Distribute transportation tokens according to shelter guidelines 

Education and Experience Qualifications Required: 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • 6 months experience in human services, preferably working with homeless populations or victims
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proof of auto liability insurance
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bilingual Capabilities
  • Experience in crisis intervention
  • Background in trauma-informed care

Skills and Competencies Required: 

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on early intervention 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication 
  • Professional interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity 
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions 
  • Crisis management and de-escalation expertise 

Position Details: 

  • Status: Part-time, PRN (As Needed), Non-Exempt 
  • Schedule: On-call availability required for both weekdays and weekends 
  • Location: Multiple program sites
