Overview:

Ferrer Pulmonary Institute is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our specialized pulmonary and acute care practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting, with a strong background in pulmonary, acute care and procedures and education. This role involves providing comprehensive care for patients with respiratory and pulmonary conditions, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes at skilled nursing facilities. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Nurse Educator: Develops and provides services related to the orientation, continuing education, and assessment of the ongoing competency of clinical staff.

  • Patient Assessment and Care: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with pulmonary conditions at skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic tests (Pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, Chest ultrasounds, Home Sleep Test).

  • Treatment Administration: Administer medications, oxygen therapy, and treatments specific to pulmonary care, including nebulizer treatments, and managing airway devices. Replacement of PEG tubes, IV therapy.

  • Care Planning and Coordination: Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments and collaborate with pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about pulmonary and healthcare conditions, treatment options, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health and quality of life.

  • Monitoring and Documentation: Monitor patient progress, document vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatments, and update electronic health records (EHR) accurately and timely.

  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to acute and respiratory emergencies, including acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma attacks, and other urgent conditions.

  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, maintain high standards of care, and contribute to the development of best practices in nursing.

  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, ensuring their concerns are addressed and their care is personalized and compassionate.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to coordinate care and ensure a seamless patient experience

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.

  2. Licensure: Valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida.

  3. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.

  4. Skills:

    1. Proficient in assessing, diagnosing, and treating pulmonary conditions.

    2. Knowledge on Point of Care Ultrasound.

    3. Knowledge on PEG tube replacement.

    4. Strong understanding of pulmonary medications and therapies.

    5. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

    6. Ability to educate and support patients and families effectively.

    7. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

    8. Active Driver License

  5. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
