As a Dental Assistant, the selected candidate will be crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of our practice, ensuring the comfort and care of our patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist dentists and dental hygienists during various treatment procedures.
- Set up and sterilize instruments, equipment, and treatment rooms following infection control protocols.
- Take dental radiographs (x-rays) as prescribed along with managing processing duties.
- Record treatment information in patient records with accuracy and detail.
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
- Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
- Take impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs).
- Assist with the provision of endodontic care under the direction of the dentist (root canals, crowns, and bridges).
- Manage dental supply inventory and place orders, ensuring the clinic is well-equipped at all times.
- Communicate with patients and suppliers (scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies).
- Help to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
- Assist the dental assistant, hygienist and office manager as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Completion of an accredited dental assistant training program.
- Certification as a Dental Assistant recognized by the state or the national certifications (CDA or RDA).
- Must be x-ray certified.
- Minimum of one-year practical experience as a dental assistant preferred.
- Must be proficient in Dentrix.
- Strong understanding of dental records, charting, and dentist notes.
- Familiarity with dental terminology and dental procedures.
- Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community.
- Proven dedication to provide high-quality, comprehensive dental care.
- Ability to comply strictly with the Law and ethical guidelines of the dental profession.
- Basic computer skills and competence in using digital office software.
- Flexibility to handle front and back office duties as per the clinic requirements.
- Capacity to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in preparing patients and operating equipment for treatments and procedures.
- Strong familiarity in understanding OSHA and sterilization standards.
