Maintenance/Custodian Job Description:
The full-time custodian is responsible for performing janitorial duties, program & event set-ups/ breakdowns, and other tasks. We seek a proactive, entry-level maintenance/custodian who will ensure that all publicly accessible areas are clean, well-maintained, secure, and ready for use.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform general cleaning tasks, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, sanitizing surfaces, kitchen cleanup and restocking supplies.
Make minor repairs.
You will be asked to assist with minor outdoor tasks, such as clearing snow, salting icy patches, and picking up trash or debris from the parking lot and weeding.
Be vigilant and report any maintenance issues that require more than a simple fix.
Follow procedures for safely and properly handling chemicals.
Custodian Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness throughout the building, focusing on high-traffic areas such as bathrooms, the sanctuary, preschool, kitchens, and meeting rooms.
Collaborate with other maintenance team members and staff to ensure all areas are properly cleaned and stocked.
Work independently or as part of a team to deliver thorough and efficient custodial services to the synagogue.
Assist with minor outdoor maintenance tasks as needed.
Operate power tools, including snow blowers, drills, sanders, and other equipment in the workshop.
Follow safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe chemical handling.
Assist with event setup and cleanup as needed.
Report any significant repair needs to management.
Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and submit requests for replenishment when necessary.
Interact with staff, members, and visitors respectfully and positively.
Custodian Requirements:
Pay: $16/hr
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Entry-level with a general understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Background Check: Required
Schedule: 10-15 hours per weekend (Friday: 4 hours, Saturday: 4 hours, Sunday: 4 hours)
Flexibility is required to accommodate different events and needs during the weekend. A minimum of 10 hours per weekend is expected, with a maximum of 15 hours.
