Position Description

The Senior Accountant is an important team member in the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role supports the accounting department by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and assisting with month-end closing processes. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is based in the Gainesville office.

Duties & Responsibilities

• General Ledger Maintenance: 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and complete general ledger entries, including posting journal entries and ensuring proper documentation.
• Financial Reporting: 
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
• Month-End Close: 
  • Assist in month-end close processes, including posting adjusting journal entries, accruals, reversals, and general ledger review and account reconciliations.
• Fixed Assets: 
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including recording  additions, dispositions, and depreciation.
• Audit Support: 
  • Assist with the preparation of materials and documentation for external audits.
• Expense Reporting: 
  • Process and review employee expense reports for accuracy and adherence to company policies.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: 
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate financial information and analysis. 
  • Work closely with controller to review financial performance and offer insights on variances between actuals and budget, trends and forecast.
• Special Projects:
  • Participate in various special projects as required by the accounting department or management
• Accounts Receivable
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and follow-up on outstanding payments, and initiating collection actions if necessary.
  • Generating reports on outstanding balances, payment trends, aging reports (showing overdue payments), and cash flow forecasts.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4-8 years of experience in accounting or related field.
• General understanding of accounting principles & U.S. GAAP.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Netsuite), Microsoft Office applications, and specifically Excel.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of accounting work
• Keen problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
• Proven ability to manage  workload and meet  deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with month-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with ERP system implementations.
• Experience with Netsuite accounting software

Compensation

• $80,000 - $90,000 - may consider more for highly experienced candidates plus bonus opportunities

This is an in-person position located at our lab in Gainesville, GA.
