Job Description

The Bug Company, a leader in the field of feeder insects, is pleased to announce an exciting job opening for a Production Husbandry Specialist. This position offers a unique opportunity, the role involves hands-on responsibilities and requires a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Please note that this is not a remote job and the candidate will be required to work on-site at our facilities.

The Production Husbandry Specialist position is integral to our operations, focusing on the cultivation and management of insects. This role demands precision, vigilance, and a genuine interest in husbandry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily maintenance and operations of insect production.
  • Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, and humidity to ensure optimal insect growth and health.
  • Conduct regular inspections and assessments of insects to identify any signs of disease or distress.
  • Manage food supply and feeding schedules to ensure all insects receive appropriate nutrients.
  • Assist in the harvesting and processing of insects for shipping and delivery.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and stored properly after use.

Requirements

  • Reliability in maintaining a clean and organized work environment is crucial for the health and welfare of the insects.
  • Ability to prepare necessary materials and perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Efficient in working both independently and as a team member, with strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Professional demeanor and a friendly attitude towards co-workers and other staff within the facility.
  • Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by management, adaptable to changing needs and conditions.
  • A willingness to adhere to all company guidelines and procedures, consistently aiming for the highest industry practices.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, hot, and humid environment, and withstand physically demanding tasks.
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs frequently and engage in frequent standing, squatting, kneeling, bending, and carrying.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply them in high-pressure situations.
  • Fluency in English with the ability to understand and communicate instructions effectively.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including counting to 100.
  • Skilled in the use of tools like box cutters and tape guns for preparation and packaging tasks.
  • Must be able to work directly with and handle live insects without hesitation.

Schedule

Sunday - Thursday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

**Hours will fluctuate based on the shipping schedules and company needs**
