Job Description

The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians is excited to announce an opportunity to join our health care team as a full-time Phlebotomist. This vital role is based at our health clinic and requires an on-site presence, as it is not eligible for remote work. The ideal candidate will contribute to our mission of providing exceptional health services by ensuring efficient and accurate specimen handling and testing in accordance with clinic protocols.

The Phlebotomist position is a professional role that involves managing various clinical lab operations and directly impacts patient care quality and safety. The candidate will be accountable for specimen processing, testing, and reporting—ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with applicable health regulations and tribal policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage lab operations, including opening and closing procedures, coordination in ordering, inventory, and stocking of supplies. Perform quality control checks on all lab equipment.
  • Perform Phlebotomy duties in a professional, competent manner, which includes:
    • Examination of patient for vital signs,
    • Conducts interviews to gather and record patient information, such as medical, billing, and personal history,
    • Explain procedures to patients to alleviate fears and anxieties,
    • Perform blood draws and conduct testing procedures to screen blood samples.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Care medical records system through RPMS patient management system, in a competent manner, and provide team support for efficient functionality.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Tribal programs & current events.
  • Complies with Tribal Employment Manual and Clinic Operations Policies, including HIPAA privacy act regarding protection of records and patient confidentiality.
  • Compile and submit necessary medical/statistical reports and data in a timely fashion.
  • Apply basic time management and patient care coordination skills to effectively provide appropriate health care services.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of Phlebotomy Certification Course.
  • Two years of general clinical laboratory work experience.
  • Certified as a Phlebotomist.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Preferred experience working with Tribes and/or Indian Health Services (IHS).
  • Candidate must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality per HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations.
  • Proven ability to read, understand and apply program rules and regulations for State, Federal, and Tribal assistance programs.
  • Excellent typing skills and familiarity with office procedures.
  • Must demonstrate proven effective interpersonal communication skills.

Benefits:  

  • Paid Time off (PTO) will begin accruing on the date of hire at the rate of 8 hours per pay period. Maximum PTO accrual will be 480 hours.
