Salary Range:  $22.00 - $30.05 hour

Job Duties

Assistance and Support:

  • Assist journeymen and foremen with carpentry tasks on-site.
  • Follow instructions and complete tasks as assigned to support project progress.
  • Prepare and organize materials and tools for daily activities.
  • Participate in the construction of commercial and residential structures.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Gain hands-on experience in framing, finishing, cabinetry, and formwork.

Quality Control:

  • Ensure work meets quality standards, building codes, and specifications.
  • Receive feedback and training to improve workmanship.
  • Identify and report any issues or deficiencies in carpentry work to supervisors.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Attend regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S and other safety regulations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Report daily activities, including work completed and any issues encountered.
  • Communicate project status and any deviations from plans to supervisors.

Training and Development:

  • Learn correct carpentry techniques and safety practices from experienced carpenters.
  • Take advantage of ongoing feedback and opportunities for skill development.
  • Embrace a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Problem Solving and Decision Making:

  • Assist in addressing challenges and resolving conflicts on-site.
  • Learn to make decisions regarding work methods and priorities.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals effectively.

Customer Relations:

  • Ensure client satisfaction by delivering high-quality carpentry work and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Represent the company professionally and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.

Budget and Cost Control:

  • Monitor project expenses related to carpentry work and materials.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.

Adherence to Policies and Procedures:

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Uphold ethical standards and promote a respectful work environment.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among the carpentry crew.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program; or proven hours worked in the Carpentry trade.

Certifications:

  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) certification/training is an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
  • Fall Arrest and/or Scaffold certification is an asset.
  • WHMIS certification.

Carpentry Skills:

  • Basic understanding of carpentry work, including framing, finishing, cabinetry, and formwork.
  • Ability to learn and develop skills in reading blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • 4860 - 10800 industry hours

Construction Practices:

  • Knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and tools commonly used in carpentry.
  • Understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards applicable in PEI.

Project Management:

  • Basic understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Communication:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to follow instructions clearly and report progress accurately.

Problem-Solving:

  • Basic critical thinking skills to assess situations, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems related to carpentry work.

Organizational Skills:

  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines.

Physical Stamina:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.

Team Collaboration:

  • Capacity to work collaboratively with other tradespeople, contractors, foreman/women and project managers to achieve project goals.

Attention to Detail:

  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in carpentry work.

Adaptability:

  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in project scope, schedules, and priorities.
