Dr. Pete N. Mellas, DMD, MS, PLLC, is excited to announce an opening for a dedicated Full-Time Surgical Dental Assistant in our esteemed private periodontal practice located in the vibrant North Scottsdale/Phoenix area. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional seeking a dynamic and rewarding environment in dental health services. This position requires a committed individual who can provide exceptional patient care and support surgical operations under the guidance of Dr. Mellas. Please note, this is not a remote job. The selected candidate will be working closely with a team of skilled healthcare professionals from Tuesday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and update patient health history regularly to ensure accurate and current information.
  • Assist Dr. Mellas during oral and IV sedation procedures as well as various surgical interventions.
  • Responsible for the setup and breakdown of operation rooms before and after procedures.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments are properly sterilized and organized according to standard safety protocols.
  • Perform dental tasks such as taking IO scans or impressions, and pouring up models as required.
  • Explain and reiterate treatment plans and options to patients, ensuring they understand their ongoing care process.
  • Handle radiological tasks, including taking x-rays and 3-D scans of patients' craniofacial features.
  • Manage inventory controls, ensuring all necessary surgical and administrative supplies are stocked and accounted for.
  • Coordinate with the front office to schedule continuing care, treatment, and postoperative appointments efficiently.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a dental assistant in a surgical setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Dentrix software and Dexis imaging systems.
  • Must possess certifications in CPR and dental x-ray procedures; certification in IV placement a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to discuss treatment plans and health concepts clearly.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Capability and willingness to take initiative and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
