Summary- As a Revit Designer you will be leading the development of your discipline’s construction documents. Your team will consist of a Drafter. They will depend on your direction based on their current understanding of discipline. Designers handle the creations and development of construction documents. Having a deeper understanding of your discipline will enable you to begin to take ownership of the content needed to complete your discipline’s design.   

Essential functions - During design you will take ownership of developing the construction documents. You are expected to understand how to compose your design package. You will develop the project scope using calculations, specifications and following the scope of work. This would mean directing your Drafter to assist in composing necessary views based on your scope. Your discipline lead will assist you and mentor you on items needed to achieve a constructible package but the responsibility of fully developing the design package is reliant on your understanding of your discipline and design principles. 

In this position you will complete the following: 

  • Use of all pertinent specifications
  •  Research standards to identify any scope of gaps or areas of concern
  •  Develop scope specific details. 
  • Verify that the design meets all code and client specifications 
  • Annotate construction documents with scope enabling content and descriptions. 
  • Determine the composition of your discipline package. 
  • Develop calculations necessary for your scope to be reviewed by your discipline lead. 
  • Utilize software tools, where required, to perform analysis of the design performance 
  • Apply work break-down structure (WBS) for estimating. 
  • Coordinate with other designers to develop the overall scope. 
  • Populate project-based information 
  • SOW summary 
  • Specification Matrix
  • Sheet list 
  • File deliverables 
  • Sheets 
  • Models 
  • QA/QC Drafter/ Jr Designer deliverables. 
  • Maintain meeting minutes for meetings in attendance.  

Supervisory responsibilities- directing your Drafter to assist in composing necessary views based on your scope. As design progresses you will participate and lead topics in:  

  • Client coordination meetings (i.e. workgroup meetings) 
  • Internal coordination meetings 
  • Discipline coordination meetings 
  • Meeting minute notation 
  • Design reviews  

Construction administration - During the construction phase of a project, our completed package is given to a general contractor to onboard trades for construction. During this phase of a project, we will receive Request for Information (RFI) and Submittals (verification of items being purchased per spec). These are mainly the responsibilities of your Project Engineer based on the impact these items will have on construction. An incorrect RFI or submittal could exponentially affect a project and should be taken as seriously as design. For your development as a Designer, you will learn the following under this scope:

  • The importance of an RFI and Submittal
  • How to respond to RFI's and Submittals. 
  • How to perform site observations. 
  • How to perform design validation.

Your main responsibilities during this are to:  

  • Revise the package based on RFI response. 
  • Rev cloud and triangles 
  • Update models 
  • Convert construction as builds into our design documents for record set (red to black) As-builds  

Required education and experience:

  •  High school Diploma or GED   
  • Two (2) year associate’s degree or equivalent experience  
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of practical experience  

Preferred education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering studies
  • Ten (10) years of practical experience.
