Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform dental hygiene services and procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride treatments, and sealants
- Assess dental condition and needs of patients using patient screening and monitoring procedures
- Analyze x-rays and evaluate dental needs as necessary per guidelines set by the clinic
- Educate patients on oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling)
- Advise patients on preventive care, outcomes, and treatment plans as prescribed by the dentist
- Maintain patient records with accurate treatment plans and notes on patients’ dental health reports
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining a safe and clean working environment
- Coordinate appointments and treatment with the dental team to ensure comprehensive care to patients
- Engage in patient management duties which involve interaction with the patients to formalize tailored dental care plans
- Utilize and maintain modern dental equipment with a standardized cleanliness practice
- Participate in training staff on dental procedures as needed
- Collaborate closely with the dentist to plan treatment, discuss diagnoses, and keep track of the required tasks
Requirements
- Degree or certification from an accredited dental hygiene program
- Valid state license to practice dental hygiene (RDH)
- Minimum of two years of experience in a dental office
- Strong understanding of dental software and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships
- Strong clinical skills and ability to handle various dental instruments and equipment
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations
- Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions
- Flexible in working hours and ready to respond to patients’ needs under minimum supervision
- Physical endurance to perform tasks that require standing for long periods of time
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple cases with attention to detail
